Senior Temporary Works Design Engineer/Manager
Senior Temporary Works Design Engineer/Manager | complex sub/superstructure projects | central London (city)
An excellent opportunity to join a leading London-based design consultancy, working closely with one of the company’s directors. You’ll play a key role in providing technical leadership and overseeing temporary works design across a diverse portfolio of demolition, enabling works, groundworks and reinforced concrete projects. Taking ownership of design delivery and team coordination, you’ll drive the development of safe, practical and commercially effective engineering solutions, ensuring the highest technical standards while meeting project requirements, budgets and programme deadlines.
Some brief info on the day to day design part
- Develop practical, safe and cost-effective temporary works solutions, from initial concept through to detailed design, including calculations, drawings, specifications and design risk assessments.
- Prepare and review design briefs, establishing key design criteria, loading requirements, site constraints, interfaces, design life, installation sequences and dismantling procedures.
- Lead the design of a wide range of temporary works, including demolition stability, façade retention, propping, needling, temporary supports, excavations, piling and working platforms, crane bases, formwork, falsework, access systems, edge protection and temporary stability arrangements for reinforced concrete structures.
- Review, check and approve temporary works designs within the limits of technical competence and the relevant design-check category, coordinating independent design checks where necessary.
- Ensure all temporary works designs comply with project procedures, BS 5975, CDM regulations, relevant British Standards, manufacturer guidance and project-specific requirements.
A bit on the management part
- Plan and prioritise the temporary works design workload to meet procurement and construction dates, escalating resource or programme risks early.
- Provide day-to-day technical guidance, coaching and design review. Independently check calculations, drawings and technical submissions and provide final technical sign-off where competent and authorised under the applicable design-check category and company procedure.
- Set clear objectives and support professional development.
- Contribute to recruitment, onboarding, resource forecasting and succession planning for the temporary works design team.
- Maintain clear, revision-controlled records of briefs, calculations, drawings, checks, approvals, RFIs, changes, residual risks and as-built information.
- Promote continuous improvement across their projects.
This represents an opportunity to continue your career with a very busy consultancy who work with contractors on some of the capital’s most exciting projects.
